Concrete Column Calculator
This concrete column calculator handles any round column or cylinder: enter the diameter (twice the radius) and height and get exact volume, bags and cost. It's the same math as a sonotube — a vertical cylinder.
Cylinder volume = π × radius² × height = π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × height Exemple résolu : A 16 in (1.333 ft) diameter column 8 ft tall: π × (1.333 ÷ 2)² × 8 = π × 0.444 × 8 ≈ 11.17 ft³ ≈ 0.41 yd³ per column.
Whether you measure by diameter or radius, the cylinder formula drives every round column estimate: V = πr²h. Enter diameter here — if you have the radius, just double it.
Structural columns are usually poured richer than slabs: M25–M35 grades (3,600–5,000 psi) with vertical rebar and ties. The volume math is unchanged, but order the specified grade.
Multiple columns? Set the count above. Porch posts, pergola bases and carport columns are typically 12–16 inches in diameter; structural building columns are engineered to load.
Foire aux questions
Questions courantes sur le concrete column calculator.
How do I calculate concrete for a round column?
π × (diameter ÷ 2)² × height, all in feet, gives cubic feet; divide by 27 for cubic yards. A 12 in × 10 ft column is π × 0.25 × 10 = 7.85 ft³ ≈ 0.29 yd³.
Diameter or radius — which do I enter?
Enter diameter. If you measured radius, multiply by 2. The calculator squares half the diameter internally (r²).
What concrete grade for columns?
Structural columns typically use M25–M35 (3,600–5,000 psi). Check the engineering drawings — columns are load-critical elements.
How is this different from the sonotube calculator?
Same cylinder math. Sonotube pages reference standard tube form sizes; this page accepts any diameter/height including formed square-to-round transitions measured as cylinders.
